What do Bat Out of Hell, Abstract Expressionism, Underground Comix, and Gay Marriage have in common? (No, it’s not Richard Corbin)

This post is the reason I haven’t updated this in so long.  Because it was supposed to be my second post, but I never got around to proof-reading it, and then…. procrastination.

I present here in its un-proofread glory, just so I can get over the hump and start posting.

MANDEM’s Current & Upcoming Art Shows (March - May, 2014)

LaGrange National XXVIII Biennial
January 21 - April 18, 2014 (LaGrange, GA)

The LaGrange Art Museum / Juried Show

The LaGrange Art Museum is one of the premier art museums/galleries in Georgia/Alabama — we learned when delivering our artwork that they have one of the largest collections of Warhol paintings! We also learned that the LaGrange National XXVIII had over 1,100 works submitted, and only about 75 paintings selected, so we’re especially honored to have been selected be a part of one of the longest running juried art events in the country.

Through Dangers Untold
February 21 - March 30, 2014 (Philadelphia, PA)
Arch Enemy Arts / Juried Show
Arch Enemy Arts Gallery describes themself as “Philadelphia’s freshest new venue for the new contemporary art scene.” You may have seen this gallery’s shows reviewed in Hi-Fructose magazine, one of MANDEM’s favorite modern art publications. Through Dangers Untold is an epic-fantasy themed fine art show, and we feel right at home.

The Grotesque
March 8 - March 22, 2014 (San Francisco, CA)
Modern Eden Gallery / Juried Show
Modern Eden Gallery, located in San Francisco’s historic North Beach neighborhood, explained the nature of this group show: “The grotesque has a long legacy in the chronicles of art history. The philosophical ideas of Plato and Plotinus on horror versus beauty in the classical era inspired a resurgence in grotesque drawing and painting during the Renaissance. Directly influenced by Dante’s Inferno and his particular vision of hell, many artists began considering the verso of surface level beauty. By measuring the depths of ugliness and horror through painting, artists of all ages like Leonardo da Vinci, Gustave Dore, Francisco Goya, Hieronymus Bosch, Edvard Munch, Otto Dix and more have discovered that the strength of the grotesque art form lies in it’s ability to measure beauty.” This is MANDEM’s first show in California, so hello West Coast!

COCA’s Creative Tallahassee 2014
